I think there're plenty of ways to make ourselves feel more confident. I'll share my experience before. When I was in junior high school, I couldn't score high in the math midterm. My brain went blank at the moment the test paper was passed to me. I found out, that was because I was too--nervous. I kept asking myself: what if there was a question I'd never seen before? What should I do? Then the result came out as you know, I had wrong answers on either the question I was unfamiliar with or the question I'd practice for thousands of times. Then I turned to my teacher for help. She asked me to do a few things; first, close my eyes and take a deep breath before any test. Second, tell myself in mind that I studied hard for the test, so don't worry, I can do this. When meeting a difficult question, don't panic, calm down then I would find out it could be solved with the simplest concept. I tried it, and I got the highest grade in my class on that test. That was amazing because I didn't spend more time on studying math, simply through this small action and self-encouragement gave me the power to face the test and did well on it.
What's more, if we set the standard or the expectation too high, we will feel stressful cause that is too difficult to achieve that. To illustrate, before the exam, I won't tell myself that "I definitely will get a full grade, "instead of that, I would say "No matter how the score is, you have studied hard and done a great job." Accordingly,self-encouragement is not that you persuade yourself to believe that you're a wonderful person or exaggerate our own abilities, it is more like to reflect on ourselves, and make ourselves realize that we have put a lot of effort on a thing and that makes us hold some advantages that others don't hold.
These are two ways I adjust my mind and make myself more confident, hope they can help you in some aspect.
